Fortnite Ranked is a competitive mode in the game that replaces the old Arena mode. You win games and rank up (hopefully). Here's everything you need to know about Fortnite ranks.
Fortnite Ranked is a competitive way to play either classic Battle Royale or Zero Build, and it replaces the previous competitive mode: Arenas. You start as a "Bronze" player, but if you win games and play well, then you rank up, eventually making it all the way to "Unreal" (if you're an incredible player). Sadly, you can also rank down as well if you perform poorly, but that adds a lot of tension to the game.
Here is your one-stop shop on everything you need to know about the Fortnite Ranked system.
The Fortnite Ranked System
The Fortnite Ranked system is very different to other Battle Royale ranked systems, like those in Apex and Warzone, and frankly it's quite confusing. After your first game of Ranked your rank will be revealed to you, but it's predetermined by your match history, it's not entirely based on that one match.
Once you have your initial rank revealed, you can rank up or down from there based on your performance in future ranked matches.
You can prove your skill in Ranked matches, and from Bronze onwards, advance up to 7 ranks. When you reach the final rank, Unreal, you will receive a number indicating your worldwide position among Unreal players. With a consistently good performance in Ranked matches, you can increase this number and join the ranks of the best Fortnite players in the world!
If you want to view your progress, you need to set "Ranked" to "On" in the lobby. You will then find your current rank on the left of the screen.
Which Modes Can You Play Ranked In?
Here are the modes that have a Ranked version this season:

All Fortnite Ranks: From Bronze To Unreal
Here are all the available ranks in Fortnite:
As you can see, there's quite a road to climb to reach the top:
- Bronze (I, II, III)
- Silver (I, II, III)
- Gold (I, II, III)
- Platinum (I, II, III)
- Diamond (I, II, III)
- Elite
- Champion
- Unreal
The Bronze through Diamond gradations are divided into three ranks, while Elite, Champion, and Unreal will each consist of only one rank.
How To Level Up in the Fortnite Ranked System
Generally speaking, eliminations are the most important part of how the game judges your performance, but it weighs late-game eliminations far more heavily than early-game eliminations. After eliminations, your final placement is the second most important aspect of your performance. The game will also taken into account how good your enemies are. So if you make loads of kills in a lobby full of players the game considers bad, you will earn far less than if you made the same amount of kills in a lobby full of great players.
There are other factors that the game considers as well, like how much damage you dealt and how much you received, but these factors are not as important as placement or eliminations.
Teams are considered as one unit - based on eliminations and team rank, all team members will gain or lose the same amount of progress.
How Does Matchmaking Work In Fortnite Ranked?
The game takes the highest player on your team, and then matches you against other players of that skill level. So, if you are a Silver 1 playing with your friend who is Gold III, you should get Gold III level enemies. This is to stop excellent players getting into lobbies of less-skilled players.
