Fortnite: Save the World can be quite overwhelming with its many features, so we'll show you how to assemble your Hero team!

In this guide, you'll learn how to put together a team of Heroes in Fortnite: Save The World that perfectly matches your personal preferences!
Save The World
Save the World is Fortnite's only game mode that you have to buy before being able to play it. It's a PVE mode with a progressing storyline, voice-acted characters, and a plethora of different missions to complete and areas to explore. It comes in a skin bundle in the item shop that changes every few months. Included are typically a skin, back bling, pickaxe, access to Save The World and a quest pack that lets you earn up to 1,500 V-Bucks by completing tasks in the mode.
Still, because it's the only paid mode, it doesn't have as big of a fanbase as other modes - it's quite underrated in our opinion. If you do purchase and install Save the World, it becomes its own mode in your Fortnite menu. When you start the mode, you're taken to a separate menu with all of the different features included in the mode - and it's quite a lot.
One of the first things you're asked to do is choose a Hero in the "Hero Loadout" section. You typically already receive a couple of heroes from the free llama piñata you get at the start of the game. Later, the game lets you assemble a growing team of Heroes, one of them being the Commander. Every Hero in this team gives you special skills and boosts your health, armor and the damage you do to the various monsters you're supposed to fight.
Choosing A Class
When choosing a Hero or assembling your whole team, you first need to choose between different Classes: Soldier, Ninja, Constructor and Outlander. Each of them has special Class Perks and Abilities. The Commander of your hero team determines your Class, so you can't play multiple Classes by assembling a team with different Classes in it.
Every Class has specific Class Perks that every Hero belonging to that Class has (if they're in the Commander position). Additionally, every Hero has Standard/Commander Perks that are unique to them. And lastly, every Hero has three Class Abilities that provide bonus attacks in combat - at first, you only get 1 and you can unlock the other 2 as you progress in the game.
So what Class should you choose, then? Depends on your personal preference but we'll tell you each Class's unique skills:
Soldier

Soldiers are specialized in ranged combat, so their Class Perks focus on shooting:
- Suppressive Fire: When shooting the same target multiple times in a row, your damage increases by 3%, which can be stacked up to 5 times.
- Stay Frosty: After 3 eliminations, your ranged weapon damage is increased by 10% and your weapon stability by 35% for 7 seconds. With additional eliminations, this duration gets refreshed.
These are the Class Perks every Soldier has. The so-called Standard Perks/Commander Perks are unique to every Soldier, though usually related to combat for this Class.
There are 5 different Class Abilities for Soldiers, each individual one has a combination of 3 of them:
- Frag Grenade: The Soldier throws a frag grenade that detonates after a few seconds and deals a base of 101 energy damage in a 0.5 tile radius.
- Goin' Commando!!!: Fires 18 times per second, which deals a base of 25 physical damage per shot, for 10 seconds.
- Lefty and Righty: Equips two pistols that fire 6 times per second and deal 57 base physical damage per shot for 10 seconds.
- Shockwave: The Soldier emits a shockwave that knocks back enemies within 1 tile range and deals a base of 75 energy damage.
- War Cry: Give a War Cry that affects teammates within 4 tiles for 10 seconds. Grants 40% more damage and 40% attack speed for ranged weapons and 40% more damage and 16% attack speed for melee weapons.
Ninja

Ninjas are specialized in melee combat and agility, here are their Class Perks:
- Mantis Leap: Allows you to jump 1 additional time while you're in the air - whether you double jump or jump/fall off a cliff. Also, Ninjas don't take fall damage, no matter how high.
- Shadow Stance: After eliminating 1 enemy with a melee weapon, Ninjas enter Shadow Stance for 4 seconds, which increases Armor by 60 and Movement Speed by 15%.
The Standard Perks/Commander Perks are unique to every Ninja - typically, they're related to melee combat or additional movement skills such as speed.
There are 5 different Class Abilities for Ninjas, each individual one has a combination of 3 of them:
- Crescent Kick: A swift kick that does a base of 54 damage, 800.0 impact, and stuns enemies for 3 seconds.
- Dragon Slash: Your Ninja springs forward by 2 tiles and deals a base of 95 edged weapon damage to all enemies within 0.5 tiles.
- Smoke Bomb: The Ninja throws down a smoke bomb that creates a cloud that lasts for 5 seconds. The cloud slows all enemies inside by 30% and deals a base of 40 damage every second.
- Throwing Stars: The Ninja hurls multiple throwing stars in a straight line and deals a base of 35 edged weapon damage with each star.
- Kunai Storm: The Ninja vaults into the air and hurls a barrage of Kunai at their enemies, each of which deals 184 damage.
Constructor

Constructors are specialized in building, melee combat (specifically with tool-like weapons), and are the most 'sturdy' class with the highest amount of Health and Armor. Here are their Class Perks:
- Kinetic Overload: Melee knockbacks and staggers trigger Kinetic Overload, which deals 25 base Energy Damage to nearby enemies. After a critical hit with a melee weapon, the Melee Impact Damage increases by 10% for 5 seconds, which can be stacked up to 5 times.
- B.A.S.E.: Part of the wheel of traps you can set up when building. Can be placed on the structures you build and reinforces them with 60 Armor. Extends 4 segments from placement.
The Standard Perks/Commander Perks are unique to every Constructor - typically, they're related to building or boosting their specific Class Abilities.
There are 5 different Class Abilities for Constructors, each individual one has a combination of 3 of them:
- Bull Rush: The Constructor charges forward 3 tiles, collecting enemies on a shield, knocking them back at the end of the rush or when colliding with a wall. This deals a base of 60 physical damage.
- D.E.C.O.Y.: Sets up a DECOY which will distract all enemies within a 1.5 tile radius for 12 seconds. While the enemies are attacking the DECOY, you can kill them more easily.
- Goin' Constructor: The Constructor equips a hammer which deals a base of 60 physical damage per hit and a shield that distracts all enemies within a 1.5 tile radius and reduces damage from the front by -5%.
- Plasma Pulse: Deploys a device that emits exploding Plasma Pulses every 0.125 seconds for 10 seconds. They deal a base of 14 energy damage.
- R.O.S.I.E.: Deploy a mountable turret with a shield bubble around it. R.O.S.I.E. has 150 ammo, deals a base of 14 physical damage per shot and fires 7 rounds per second.
Outlander

Outlanders are specialized in looting rather than combat, which is why they employ technological devices to help them in combat. Here are their Class Perks:
- Anti-Material Charge: Punch forward and destroy structures, harvesting their materials. When used against enemies, it deals 5,126.4 damage. Can be activated while your pickaxe is equipped.
- In The Zone: After 5 consecutive hits with your pickaxe, your pickaxe damage is increased by 25% and movement speed by 7.5%. Nearby containers glow during this Perk but it ends once you switch weapons.
- Loot Llama: Outlanders can activate Charge Fragments around the map. Blue ones boost their technological combat devices but purple ones create a Loot Llama that you and your allies can hit with a pickaxe, which makes it emit materials and crafting ingredients.
The Standard Perks/Commander Perks are unique to every Outlander - typically, they boost their specific Class Abilities. There are 4 different Class Abilities for Outlanders, each individual one has a combination of 3 of them:
- Seismic Smash: Smash the ground and create a fissure of energy which deals 114 energy damage to enemies.
- Phase Shift: Rapidly shifts in a straight line by 1.562 tiles.
- Shock Tower: Consumes a Charge Fragment to place a Shock Tower that pulses every 0.5 seconds, and lasts for 6 seconds. Causes Chain lightning that does a base of 18 energy damage to enemies within 1.367 tiles and stuns small enemies for 1 second. Can also stun large enemies after multiple hits.
- T.E.D.D.Y.: Consumes a Charge Fragment to deploy T.E.D.D.Y. for 15 seconds. T.E.D.D.Y. will blast enemies within 4 tiles for a base of 10 physical damage, 4 times per second.
Assembling A Team
After choosing your preferred class, you now need to assemble your team of Heroes in a way that makes sense. Here are some additional tips:
- It's usually advisable to specialize in a specific Class, unless a Hero has a non-Class-specific Perk.
- Just like in Battle Royale, there are Rarities in Save the World and the more rare your Hero is, the stronger they are. The order is: Common > Uncommon > Rare > Epic > Legendary > Mythic.
- Your strongest Hero should be your Commander because this gives you additional boosts for Health, Armor and Damage.
- Of course, leveling up your Heroes boosts their skills even more.
- When you've chosen a Commander, you can create a specialized team that boosts their individual abilities even further - For example, if your commander is a Ninja with the Smoke Bomb Ability, you can choose a team member that deals additional Smoke Bomb damage, etc.
