The Shadow of the Erdtree DLC has finally arrived, and like the creator of the Elden Ring manga, we're putting everything else on hold to play it! It's to discover if the final boss really is as devastatingly hard as those leaked images suggested.
If you're eager to embark on this new journey but find yourself unsure of how to access it, don't worry — I’m here to guide you through the process. While there are many ways to get to the new DLC, completing the Varré questline is the fastest by far. Follow these steps to dive into the new content without a hitch.
This DLC is designed for late-game characters. Aim for around Level 120 to avoid getting stomped by the new challenges and high-stat weapons.
Getting To Shadow of the Erdtree Content: Overview
Here is a basic overview of the steps:
- Meet Varré
- Defeat Godrick the Grafted
- Meet Varré at the Church of Roses
- Invade other players or NPCs
- Find a Dead Maiden
- Give Varré your Finger
- Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood
- Touch the Withered Arm
Not so difficult after all!
Step 1: Meet Varré
Did I mention that you need to complete Varré's questline? No? Well, now you know. Seriously, it's the easiest way to the DLC, and you'll meet this charming fellow right after the tutorial, standing in front of the First Steps Site of Grace.
Step 2: Defeat Godrick the Grafted
Time to take down Godrick the Grafted, or any other Shardbearer boss like Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon, or Starscourge Radahn. Clear Stormveil Castle and feel like a hero for a minute. This step is crucial to keep Varré’s questline moving forward and to unlock the DLC.
Step 3: Meet Varré At The Church of Roses
After your victory, head over to the Roundtable Hold and chat with Two Fingers. Then, find Varré at the Church of Roses in Liurnia of the Lakes. This church is on a small island south of Raya Lucaria Academy. Varré will quiz you about Two Fingers — just agree that "They didn't seem right." Easy-peasy.

Step 4: Invade Other Players Or NPCs
Varré will give you a Festering Bloody Finger, introducing you to Elden Ring's PvP mode. Invade three other players; you don’t have to win, just show up and participate. Return to Varré afterward, and he’ll anoint you with a new title and give you a cloth called Lord of Blood’s Favor.
Step 5: Find A Dead Maiden
Now, you need to soak the cloth in a maiden's blood. Head to the Church of Inhibition, north of Frenzied Flame village, and find a conveniently dead maiden to collect some blood.
Step 6: Give Varré Your Finger
Bring the blood-stained cloth back to Varré. As a token of appreciation, he’ll ask for one of your fingers. It’s a little creepy, but hey, it’s Elden Ring. In return, you get the Pureblood Knight's Medal, which teleports you to Mohgwyn Dynasty Mausoleum. Almost there now!
Step 7: Defeat Mohg, Lord of Blood
Use the medal to teleport, then make your way up the mountain, dodging or defeating enemies. At the top, take the elevator to face Mohg, Lord of Blood. Beat him (easy, right?) to unlock the Site of Grace and access the DLC region.
Mohg is a hard boss. If you want help defeating him, look for Mohg's Shackle in the underground of Leyndell Royal Capital. This item will make it a lot easier to defeat him.
Step 8: Touch The Withered Arm
In the arena, you’ll find an egg with Miquella's body. Touch the withered arm to be transported to the Land of Shadow, unlocking the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC map.
