Unreal Engine 5 and AI Integration
InZoi is built on Unreal Engine 5, which gives the game its stunning visuals. Unlike other life-sims that often lean toward a more stylized, cartoonish aesthetic, InZoi features realistic character models (called Zois) and highly detailed environments.
In addition to its impressive visual engine, InZoi integrates generative AI to enhance customization. You can use AI to create in-game content through text prompts, such as clothing designs, wall patterns, and more. The game also includes a 3D printer-like feature that allows players to upload real-life photos and turn them into in-game 3D assets.
Key Gameplay Features
InZoi promises a wealth of gameplay features that life-simulation fans will appreciate. Here’s a look at what we know so far:
- Character Customization: The Character Studio in InZoi allows you to design your Zois in great detail. From their looks to their personalities and aspirations, the customization options are vast.
- City Building and Editing: The game lets you build and modify cities with various biomes and aesthetics. Unlike the lot-based mechanics of The Sims 4, InZoi offers an open-world city where players can explore freely.
- Skills and Careers: Zois can pursue various careers – from K-pop idols to firefighters – and develop skills like cooking, music, and social interaction. These systems offer a depth of engagement, allowing you to shape your Zois' lives in meaningful ways.
- Weather, Crime, and Exploration: With dynamic weather systems and a built-in crime mechanic, InZoi allows Zois to chase down criminals – or find themselves in trouble with the law. Plus, the city is full of interesting points of interest, such as a theme park with rideable roller coasters.
- Afterlife: Zois can become ghosts and visit Zoi-heaven, where they can even interact with other deceased Zois.
How Does InZoi Compare to The Sims?
While InZoi shares a lot of similarities with The Sims, director Hyungjun "Kjun" Kim has been clear that the game isn’t looking to compete with the iconic franchise. Instead, he sees InZoi as an alternative for fans of life-sims. Kim acknowledged the legacy The Sims has built over the years, and emphasized that it’s difficult to replicate its depth in a short period of time.
That said, InZoi appears to offer lots of features right out of the gate, including a more robust city-building mode and highly detailed character customization. These elements are likely to make it an attractive option for fans of the genre who are looking for a fresh experience.
