Comedian Samay Raina reacted to the diss track "Blackball" by Straight Outta Srinagar (SOS) on a YouTube livestream. Samay, who is familiar with many Indian hip-hop artists like Raftaar, Kr$na, and Seedhe Maut, was also featured in a Seedhe Maut song called “11K”. He hails from Kashmir, just like SOS. During the livestream, Samay expressed his displeasure with some of the lyrics in the diss track and discussed this with the audience.
Seedhe Maut vs Straight Outta Srinagar Beef
Straight Outta Srinagar (SOS), a rap duo from Kashmir started taking shots at Seedhe Maut, a rap duo based in Delhi. All of these started in 2020 when Seedhe Maut and SOS were working under Azadi records. SOS threw allegations against Azadi Records that they prioritise Seedhe Maut and also SOS’s album idea (where all songs started from the letter “क”) was copied by Calm & Encore (2021 album “न”).
This beef was limited to snippets and Instagram stories. But recently "Blackball" was released by Straight Outta Srinagar on 24 Jun, 2024. Seedhe Maut replied within 2 days with their song TT / Shutdown.
Samay Raina Reacts to SOS
Samay Raina is well-known for his dark humor jokes and his livestreams. In a recent live stream, Samay shared his thoughts about the ongoing Rap War, lamenting that the situation could have been avoided with just one phone call. He also expressed his disapproval of the fact that some of the rap song’s contain strange lyrics, including references to Kashmir and "Patharbazi" (stone pelting).
Samay questioned the appropriateness of glorifying these subjects, particularly when they involve the loss of soldiers' lives. Samay also appreciated SOS's writing skills in the video. The diss track also had some lines for Samay, which he took sportingly, saying "That was funny."
Conclusion
In the end, Samay Raina's reaction to the rap feud between Straight Outta Srinagar (SOS) and Seedhe Maut sheds light on the intricacies of the Indian hip-hop scene. With deep ties to both the artists and Kashmir, Samay expressed his concerns about the contentious lyrics that glorify sensitive issues like stone pelting and the conflict in Kashmir.
He believes that such beefs could be settled more amicably with a simple phone call rather than through diss tracks. Despite the personal digs aimed at him in the diss track, which he took in stride, Samay's overall message was clear: artists should aim for more thoughtful and responsible content in their music.
