2XKO Will Reimagine The Tag Team Fighting Game Formula

The 2XKO play test is right around the corner, and we have some stuff to talk about. The game will feature mechanics that are uncommon for a tag team fighter, so let's dive right in.

2XKO is Riot Games' take on a tag team fighting game, with many characters from the League of Legends roster, making their debut as 2v2 brawlers.

Gamespot was allowed to test the game beforehand, and they discovered some interesting details about the games' mechanics.

Revamping The Formula

One of the first things that stand out about 2XKO is the amount of players that can play at the same time.

2XKO will support up to 4 players per match, meaning that everyone can play their own character and switch with each other during fights. The option to play with two players is there as well, of course.

Another detail that is different from other tag team fighters is the support mechanic.

In tag team fighting games, you can call for a short support move from the champion that isn't on the screen at the moment. Normally, when a character's health bar reaches zero, you can't use these support actions anymore.

But 2XKO does it differently. Even when a champion is knocked out, they can still support your fighter, which is less punishing and also leaves room for new strategies to develop.

In any case, I am very excited about this game and I hope I'll be able to take part in the playtest. If you want to sign up for it, click here.
