Game of Thrones gets an open world RPG game, but don't get too excited

With Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, Netmarble is bringing a new chapter to the world of Westeros – this time as an action-packed mobile game. But can the game live up to its expectations? The last season of the legendary series famously failed to do so.

The game, called Game of Thrones: Kingsroad, was unveiled at the G-Star 2024 gaming expo in Busan, Korea.

The trailer looks incredibly promising, even if some of you probably weren't hoping for a mobile game. Players are immediately immersed in the icy landscapes beyond the Wall, encountering familiar faces from the series.

Battles against giants and White Walkers dominate the action, as players join the Night's Watch and fight alongside Jon Snow. The trailer impresses with fluid animations and an intense third-person combat style.

The dark atmosphere fits the world of Westeros, and the situation seems very threatening.

But it's best to watch the trailer yourself to judge its looks:

Additional Details:

  • Genre: Open-world action RPG, designed as a single-player experience.
  • Release Window: Expected in the first half of 2025, according to Netmarble.
  • Performance: The game is optimized to run at 60 FPS on modern smartphones like the iPhone 16 Pro. It remains uncertain how well older devices will handle the game.
  • Graphics: The trailer hints at high-quality visuals and detailed design, bringing the world of Westeros to life with authenticity.
  • Monetization: Likely to feature microtransactions, based on Netmarble’s track record with games like Seven Knights and The Seven Deadly Sins: Idle Adventure.
  • Developer Expertise: Netmarble is well-known for its success in mobile gaming, ensuring a polished and engaging experience.

Game of Thrones: Kingsroad aims to deliver a dynamic and immersive addition to the Game of Thrones universe, blending strategic gameplay with cinematic action.
