The masterful mind behind three of the greatest games in the last two decades has been working on the next big project after a long silence since 2016.

Let's take a look at what we know of his new game that's been codenamed "Project: Robot" – spoiler: it's not a lot.

The reveal trailer of "Project: Robot"

During the Game Awards of 2024, Epic Games Publishing announced the new upcoming game produced by Fumito Ueda, the director and lead designer of his previous titles Ico (2001), Shadow of the Colossus (2005), and The Last Guardian (2016), and genDESIGN, the studio behind the latter.

Everybody knows that games led by Ueda will not only come with his iconic lightning and color palettes, but will also be the most amazing experience known to any gamer out there.

As for the trailer, it does not tell us much about the details of the release. However, it does give us an impression of the atmosphere of the game.

Ueda's love for the "tiny human, giant beast" trope shows here as well, as we see a cloaked human figure climb atop a gigantic robot.

A strange, distorted robotic voice, possibly coming from the robot itself, is counting down from what sounds like 65 seconds.

Only when the human stands on the shoulder of the giant can we see why: there is a massive, black shockwave rapidly approaching.

The human climbs onto the head of the robot and the robot detatches its head from its body with large engines.

It looks like the robot is trying to save the human from the impact of the explosion – or whatever it is – and is willing to sacrifice itself for them.

And that's... all we know. There has been no release date or anything of the sort.

The only thing that we do know is that the game will release on PlayStation, though it's not certain which model or whether other platforms will see a release as well.

Still, we are beyond excited to be able to experience another amazing project by Fumito Ueda, even if it might take a while for it to be released. (As long as it doesn't get the Hollow Knight: Silksong treatment...)

Are you excited as well? Are you even familiar with Ueda's other games? (You better be!) Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments!
