Developers of The Day Before cancel their failed Kickstarter just to announce another new game

Despite the complete failure of their Kickstarter campaign for their newest game, the developers of The Day Before went ahead and announced a new title.

In a recent announcement, Fntastic informed fans of the cancellation of their failed Kickstarter campaign and announced a new game in development.

Fntastic’s Controversial Track Record

Fntastic has built quite a reputation, though not necessarily a positive one. Shortly after launching their last game, the studio abruptly closed within four days—only to reopen later. The same studio seemed unclear about key details of its own game in development, learning it was an MMO by watching the trailer. The developers later blamed the game's failure on what they described as a hate campaign by “random bloggers.”

In September, Fntastic launched a Kickstarter for a new project called Escape Factory, described as a “physics-based multiplayer co-op escape game.” However, the campaign quickly stalled, raising only $2,000 of its $15,000 goal, and was soon canceled.

Oddly enough, while announcing the cancellation on X (formerly Twitter), Fntastic also revealed yet another upcoming game.

This latest project, titled ITEMS, is described as an action-horror prop hunt game. However, fans noticed a striking similarity to the studio's previous game, Propnight, which was eventually shut down.

Fan Reactions and Community Backlash

Fans, backers, and casual observers have expressed a range of reactions to Fntastic’s announcements, from confusion and frustration to outright amusement.

Many have taken to social media, describing the developers as “scammers” and joking that Fntastic must celebrate “April Fool’s Day every day.” Others speculate that Fntastic may be “the most delusional developers ever.”

Uncertain Future for Fntastic’s New Project

As of now, ITEMS has not launched its own Kickstarter campaign, and fans can only hope it remains that way. However, with Fntastic’s unpredictable history, it’s difficult to anticipate what they might do next.
