Ecco the Dolphin is finally making a comeback — not just with remasters, but with a completely new game.

A New Game In The Works

After decades without a new release, Ecco the Dolphin is set to return. Series creator Ed Annunziata has announced that a brand-new game is currently in development.

This new title is not a remake or a reboot, it’s a new continuation of the original idea, designed for modern platforms.A countdown on the official Ecco website points to April 26, 2026.

While it’s not yet confirmed, that date likely marks either a full reveal or the planned release.

Built For Modern Systems

Annunziata has described the project as a “contemporary Ecco experience.”

The goal is to retain the atmosphere and exploration-based gameplay of the original games while updating the visuals, mechanics and scope to match current standards.

The original Ecco games, released in the early 90s, stood out for their underwater setting and challenging gameplay. The new title is expected to continue in that direction, but with improved accessibility and technical upgrades.

A Deep Connection To The Ocean

The Ecco series has always focused on the ocean and its ecosystems. That’s not changing.

Annunziata has spoken about how his Pacific Islander heritage and his personal connection to the sea continue to influence his work.

The new game will once again touch on ecological themes and the relationship between nature and survival.

Two Remasters Also Announced

Alongside the new game, remastered versions of Ecco the Dolphin (1992) and Ecco: The Tides of Time (1994) are in development.

These versions aim to bring the original gameplay to modern platforms with updated visuals and performance improvements, while staying true to the source material.

There are still many open questions. Platforms haven’t been confirmed, and we haven’t seen any gameplay or screenshots yet.

We'll keep you updated as soon as more details are revealed.
