In his ongoing journey claiming to be one of the best gamers in the world, the X CEO stumbled once again.

Elon Musk wanted to prove that he is one of the best Path of Exile 2 players in the world and got called out for lying.

Even though he always acts like he would be way above anybody else, it more than often seems like Elon Musk needs everybody’s approval and that the stuff he does and achieves only matters to him, when others see it.

And while he claims to love video games, it might be the same with his image of being a pro player in almost every game the moment he starts playing it.

When he tried to show off his genius in Path of Exile 2 during a live stream, he got called out by the gaming community, debunking his claims of being a PoE2 pro.

Was it really Musk’s character he was playing?

The streamers Quinn “Quin69” Crawford and Kripparrian commented on Musk’s gameplay, pointing out more than a few hints leading to the claim that the X CEO had no idea what he was doing in the game and that someone else had built the account and character for him.

While Quin69 is a well-known action RPG expert, especially when it comes to Path of Exile, Kripp plays a lot of games and was one of biggest Diablo 4 streamers on Twitch.

It all started when Musk opened his character’s stash, revealing a tab named “Elon’s map” that, for a lot of viewers, already seemed odd since it’s not that likely to name a game-relevant tab not just “maps” or “my maps” but using your name, even though some could argue that a person with super villain energy like Musk might also refer to himself in third person.

Unfortunately for Musk, there is way more than this.

A fundamental misunderstanding of the game

A lot of stuff that happened during his stream made it even more likely that someone else at least got him to his current level of 95.

While his sometimes random movements and him forgetting to refill his empty mana meter could come from him not caring too much about playing “for real” while showing off his gameplay, clicking on the grey places of the Atlas map multiple times with (of course) nothing happening, entering a map of the loot-based game with a full inventory, unable to pick up more stuff and even ignoring one of the most valuable materials you can find in the game, a Chaos Orb, has been a huge indicator showing Musk’s lack of understanding of the game.

One of the biggest proofs for Quin69 and Kripp has been Musk talking about his current equipment. When the X CEO saw his weapon’s being “only level 62”, comparing it to his character’s level of 95, he clearly showed a fundamental misunderstanding of an item’s effectiveness not determined by its level requirement but by its item level.

He repeats this mistake by going through the items he had equipped, calling it “pretty low level” compared to his character, while his weaponry in fact had to be carefully collected, crafted and rerolled to maximize the build of his character.

Not only the two streamers but also users of the PoE2 subreddit called all of this out for being odd.

People doubting if Musk is a gamer at all

While some users stated: “His gear is better than a lot of full time streamers. No way it is real. Account sharing or boost of some kind”, another added “I mean he has a ******* mirror tier staff and says he needs to replace it because it's only level 62. You don't need to say anything else”.

Others even questioned if Musk’s bragging in other games like Diablo 4 might be a fraud as well and him claiming to be a pro player is just a random thing to fuel his ego.

One user summed all of this up asking:

The weird part to me is that he feels he needs to brag about being a pro gamer for some reason. Dude put a car his company designed into space on a rocket his other company designed, why the hell does he need to brag about gaming?

Shortly after all that happened, players figured out that Musk’s character apparently had died – which is literally deadly in a game with no reviving – wondering if Musk wanted to prove the claims wrong, showing off his amazing skills and getting killed.

What are your thoughts on all of that? Do you think Musk is a real pro gamer or is all of this just a fraud?
