Marvel Rivals' Players Are Frustrated With Human Torch

Players of Marvel Rivals are increasingly voicing their frustration with Human Torch, but not for the usual balance-related reasons. Instead, the issue lies in a frustrating visual problem: it’s incredibly difficult to distinguish between a friendly and enemy Human Torch in the heat of battle.

Human Torch was introduced as part of Marvel Rivals’ midseason update alongside The Thing, adding a fiery new option to the Duelist category. While fresh characters always bring excitement and shake up the meta, Human Torch’s arrival has also brought a wave of complaints from players struggling with visual clarity.

Too Many Flames, Not Enough Clarity

A skilled Human Torch can already be a menace, especially for teams lacking a hitscan character to counter his mobility. But for many, the biggest challenge isn’t his abilities - it’s simply figuring out whether the fire-covered character flying around is a teammate or an enemy.

When two Human Torches appear in the same match, it quickly becomes a chaotic guessing game. While Marvel Rivals does offer settings such as changing teammate outlines and enabling allied health bars, these options aren’t always enough in the midst of fast-paced combat. With flames engulfing the battlefield, many players say they are forced to do “mental math” mid-fight just to determine whether they are about to engage with a teammate or an enemy.

Community Pushes for Better Visual Options

A popular suggestion circulating among the community is to give the allied Human Torch a completely different flame color, such as blue, to make him easier to identify. In a Reddit thread discussing the issue, one user proposed that teammates should see blue flames while enemies remain engulfed in the standard fiery red. This idea has gained traction, with multiple players agreeing that a simple color swap could drastically reduce confusion.

The conversation has also sparked discussions about broader accessibility improvements in Marvel Rivals. One user suggested a colorblind mode, whilst another pointed out that Marvel Rivals should offer more customizable visual settings to help differentiate between teammates and opponents:

"There should be options to change a lot of things to differentiate between enemies and team mates. I'm colourblind so things like Peni mines and Human Torch's fire are a nightmare." - Zabbla

This further emphasizes that players with color vision deficiencies struggle with elements like Peni Parker’s mines and Human Torch’s flames.

While there’s no word yet on whether the developers will implement these changes, the ongoing complaints highlight a real problem for players. If Marvel Rivals wants to ensure a smoother gameplay experience, a clearer way to distinguish Human Torch allies from enemies might be a necessary fix.
