Nintendo has always held a special place in the gaming industry, going against the grain in so many ways. And the same will hold true of AI, which Miyamoto does not want to see replace creativity.
During a promo interview for the new Nintendo Museum, Shigeru Miyamoto was asked about Nintendo's AI plans for future games, and we love his answer.
Nintendo to continue relying on human creativity over AI
While most of the industry is moving towards more and more use of AI, Nintendo have decided to do things differently.
Miyamoto, the genius behind some of Nintendo's most iconic games and characters, told the New York Times that the company is moving in a different direction than most of its gaming industry contemporaries.
There is a lot of talk about A.I., for example. When that happens, everyone starts to go in the same direction, but Nintendo would rather go in a different direction.
Of course, they will use AI for some things, like the movement of enemy characters, as President Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed, but not for creative processes.
We can already see the effects of using AI in games like Palworld, but it will be interesting to see more differences between AI and non-AI games in the future. Well, interesting and disheartening, but at least we can rely on Nintendo to continue using human creativity.
What do you think about AI in gaming, are you opposed to its use, or do you see potential there?
