Monster Hunter Wilds Is Helping Players Coping With The Loss Of Their Pets

Monster Hunter Wilds gives players so much freedom in customizing their Palicoes, some started to recreate late, beloved animals.

Monster Hunter Wilds just launched and people are loving it for various reasons, mostly being the title-giving hunt for monsters. But there are also people doing quite the opposite by recreating their own little monsters that once lived with them by making their Palicoes look like their late pets.

Right from the beginning of MHW, players create their Palico as a partner, and the impressive amount of customization options allow them to be really creative with it and make them exactly how they want them to look.

Paying Tribute To The Loss Of A Friend

While some even recreate their favorite Pokémon to bring the catching and the hunting of monsters together, others use the character customization feature to pay a loving tribute to their late pets to go on a final adventure together.

Some players shared images of their Palicoes resembling their beloved animals, gaining a lot of comfort from a game that is mostly fast-paced and stressful.

One user even shared the story of their cat, who passed away just a day before the release of Wilds, admitting it was “a very hard week”, losing their 15 year old cat.

However, they are thankful to (sort of) get to spend more time with the cat by having it following in-game.

I’m unbelievably broken about losing her, but having her by my side in this journey makes me feel like she’s not gone. She may be gone from this world, but her memory lives on forever while she’s fighting beside me. That gives me so much peace, and I’m forever grateful to Monster Hunter for this.

That really hits home – it reminds me of how I put Pokémon resembling my own cats in every team of every generation I ever played.

Comforting And Heartwarming

Inspired by that, others shared their similar experiences as well:

Lost my dear girl a couple of years ago and knew I would be dedicating my palico slot to her. The fact that they speak like humans now and how excited she gets is just very comforting in a weird way. I personify my pets, so I feel very connected to this little digital being, even if it’s not my late kitty.

Even though the Palicoes have very feline, cattish features to them, people even made accurate versions of their dogs.

It’s heartwarming to see that people use their creativity and the features a game like Monster Hunter Wilds offers them to blur the lines between reality and gaming to not only cope with the loss of their late beloved pets but also share it with others to inspire peers to also find ways to fight not only monsters in-game, but their demons in the real world as well.

What are your thoughts on MHW? And have you ever recreated a pet in a game? And are you crying right now, too?
