Grinding Gear Games have been forced to delay Early Access to Path of Exile 2.
If you have already marked November 15, 2024, on your calendar for PoE 2, Grinding Gear Games has some bad news for you. Early Access has been pushed back three weeks to December, 6 2024.
PoE 2 is ready, but porting across your old items from PoE 1 is proving difficult
In a short video, Jonathan Rogers, Game Director of Path of Exile 2, spoke directly to the community to explain the news. The problem is that they want the game to have crossplay and cross-progression, and it's especially difficult in this case because they also want users to be able to access older microtransactions from Path of Exile 1.
This means that older data split across multiple platforms needs to be connected, which as Rogers describes, is far more difficult than it might sound:
And when you start migrating databases that are this old and with this much data, you find all sorts of strange demons in there.
There will be another livestream in four weeks, where the team will present all the Early Access content. Hopefully the issue will be resolved by then.
However, fans are far from angry, on the contrary, at least based in the comments below the video, fans are grateful for the transparency the studio have shown.
