Fans of River City Girls 2 can soon give beat 'em up veterans Billy and Jimmy Lee a try.
River City Girls 2 might have been released back in 2022, but the developers just announced new DLC, and it includes real beat ‘em up history.
Published by Arc System, the game tells the story of the school girls Misako and Kyoko fighting against the baddies from the first game and a bunch of Yakuza henchmen. It’s a beat’em up brawler with a flashy, anime-inspired, pixelated art style, focusing on jumping combos, elemental attacks and a chaotic while fun gameplay.
New song, story and fighters
The new DLC launching on November 12 not only adds new content to the game, it brings back some beat 'em up pioneers!
Because next to a new dojo master, a whole new song and full new story integration, the DLC features Billy and Jimmy Lee from Double Dragon as playable characters. The voices of Billy and Jimmy as well as the mentioned new song are performed by GameGrump’s Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan.
The Double Dragon beat ‘em up franchise itself started back in the 80s with an arcade release and since then was in one form or another basically playable on every platform there is – and even as a movie on tv. It had a huge impact on fighting games in general and even though Double Dragon games are still released, it’s nice to see, that there are still homages to it in other games of the genre.
