Jack Black is taking over video game movies – but what if he also took over the games themselves? One modder just made it happen in Minecraft.

Jack Black taking over the world of video game movies isn’t enough? One modder thought so, too. While the Hollywood icon gears up to play Steve in A Minecraft Movie, his unmistakable voice has already made its way into the game – thanks to some creative modding magic. Now, Minecraft players can experience the game in a whole new way. Here’s everything you need to know about the latest news from the world of modding.

Jack Black Takes Over Minecraft

Jack Black’s dominance in video game movies wasn’t enough – now he’s in Minecraft, too. It all started when a Twitter user compiled a video of Black naming everything he saw in the Minecraft Movie trailer. Another fan jokingly wished for a mod that brought this energy into the game, and that’s when modder UltimateDoge stepped in. After three hours of work, the mod was born, with UltimateDoge humorously admitting, "Three hours of my life that I'll never get back went into making this."

The result? A version of Minecraft where Steve now announces his own name, mutters "crafting table" when interacting with one, and likely has more voice lines on the way. The mod is currently under review on Modrinth, but once live, players can experience the game with Jack Black’s signature energy. It’s one of those bizarre internet creations that make you both laugh and wonder: why does this exist – and why do I love it? When it’s ready, you can download it here.

Jack Black Mods Keep Coming

If Jack Black voicing Steve wasn’t enough, the internet had more in store. Another modder, TheMoschopsGuy, took things to a whole new level by creating baby zombie Jack Black. This cursed masterpiece replaces the normal baby zombie with a stretched-out, pixelated version of Black’s face – pure nightmare fuel. Pair this with UltimateDoge’s voice mod, and suddenly, Minecraft feels like a chaotic fever dream.

While we’re at it, let’s talk about the challenges of adapting video games. The tweet titled "The Minecraft Movie trailers but only when Jack Black says something from the game verbatim" is a great example of an issue the filmmakers have to tackle. Many people assume that because they first played Minecraft over ten years ago as kids or teenagers, this movie is made for them. Nope – it’s actually made for the new generation of kids experiencing the game for the first time. The movie simply isn’t for you; it’s for children who watch Dora the Explorer and are used to being asked to name things every ten seconds.

Yes, while a great movie can appeal to audiences both young and old, remember – this is the Minecraft movie. Did Angry Birds: The Movie win Best Picture? Did Sonic 3 win Best – well, it should, but that’s not the point. And yes, the lighting in the film is terrible, especially in combination with the green screen. But don’t tell me you don´t remember Spy Kids looking like Avatar when it actually looks more like a Commodore 64 game.

Are you excited for the Minecraft movie, and will you download the Jack Black mod? Tell us in the comments!
