A new mainline 3D Mario game might be closer than we think — here’s what Nintendo had to say.

Nintendo Of America President Says: "Stay Tuned"

In a recent interview, Nintendo of America President Doug Bowser hinted at what might be next for everyone’s favorite plumber. When asked about the possibility of a new 3D Mario title for the upcoming Switch 2, Bowser didn’t confirm anything — but he did tell fans to “stay tuned.” That’s Nintendo-speak for “something’s cooking.”

While there’s still no official announcement, Bowser’s wording suggests that a 3D Mario game is at least on the company’s radar.

No New Mario Game In The Launch Lineup (Yet)

The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to drop on June 5, 2025, and its launch lineup already includes Mario Kart World and a new Donkey Kong title. But there’s no sign of a new mainline Mario platformer like Super Mario Odyssey, which dropped all the way back in 2017.

For fans, that’s a long wait, especially considering how much love Odyssey got for its creative worlds, slick controls, and that iconic New Donk City level.

Why A New 3D Mario Is Almost Inevitable

A new Mario game isn’t just likely, it’s basically guaranteed. Every Nintendo console has eventually gotten its own big 3D Mario title, and the Switch 2 will be no exception. Bowser’s vague-but-hopeful comments feel like a soft confirmation that something is in the works. It might not be a launch title, but it’s probably not too far off either.

If you're a Mario fan, now’s the time to get cautiously hyped. Nintendo’s not ready to tell us the details, but signs are pointing toward a return to form with another 3D platforming adventure. And after nearly eight years since Odyssey, we’re ready.
