The Sims 4 has just released an update that added a criminal to the game – and the community is celebrating.

The Sims 4

The Sims 4 was released for Windows in 2014 – more than a decade ago! Later on, the game also expanded to other platforms: macOS, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. And while the game had many features that already existed in previous games, plus quite some new content, fans missed one thing: Having their house broken into at night!

That's right, a feature that previously terrified many fans, having to worry about randomly triggered burglaries, was sorely missed when it was removed from the game – no risk, no fun, we guess.

But there's good news: The Burglar is finally back!

Return Of The Burglar

In a dev diary post, Game Designer Xènia announced that the Burglar was coming back for the franchise's 25th anniversary! She was just added to The Sims 4 together with a new The Sims 4 Businesses & Hobbies Expansion Pack.

Here's how the criminal works:

The infamous Robin Banks (yep, that’s her name—we couldn’t resist) only strikes at night, sneaking into your Sim’s home while everyone is fast asleep (or even if they are awake!). Before you know it, she’ll be grabbing whatever’s valuable and making her escape. - Game Designer Xènia

How To Defend Yourself Against The Burglar

But don't worry: There are various ways to defend yourself against the Burglar. The option that is available to everyone is to just have one of your Sims call the police fast enough for them to still arrest her.

An even safer option is installing a Burglar Alarm, which you can upgrade in a way where it's guaranteed that the criminal will be caught in time. If you prefer taking a risk, you can let your Sim fight her - the winning chances are higher if your Sim is physically fit.

But there are also characters from specific packs that have unique defense abilities, here's what the dev diary says:

  • Have a dog? They’ll chase the Burglar right out. (Requires: The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack)
  • Werewolves can intimidate the Burglar into leaving. (Requires: The Sims 4 Werewolves Game Pack)
  • Spellcasters? They’ve got everything from confusion spells to full-on transformations. (Requires: The Sims 4 Realm of Magic Game Pack)
  • Servos can zap the Burglar into place with their defense matrix. (Requires: The Sims 4 Discover University Expansion Pack)
  • Scientists can use the Freeze Ray to immobilize them. (Requires: The Sims 4 Get to Work Expansion Pack)
  • Vampires, of course, might take advantage of the situation for a quick warm-blooded snack before commanding the Burglar to leave. (Requires: The Sims 4 Vampires Game Pack)

So this is all of the new information on the returned Burglar! Are you happy that she's back? How are you planning to defend yourself? Let us know in the comments!
