According to Joost von Druenen, the company might have to separate from some of their valuable IP.
Ubisoft might have no other choice than to sell off some valuable IPs like Assassin’s Creed and Rainbow Six in 2025.
After a few underperforming projects in the last couple of months, Ubisoft could find themselves in a situation in which they have to separate from the Assassin’s Creed franchise as well as other IPs.
Privatization and dismantling in 2025
We already reported about the changes Ubisoft might undergo due to the decisions of majority shareholders Guillemot and Tencent. According to Joost von Druenen, former CEO of SuperData, a gaming market research tool, Ubisoft might head "for privatization and dismantling in 2025".
With Assassin’s Creed Shadows being delayed, Star Wars Outlaws underperforming and the confirmation of shutting down all services of FPS XDefiant in 2025, the recent past of Ubisoft doesn’t look that good and contributes to the current outlook.
Druenen went on, pointing out the drop in value of Ubisoft’s share price year-over-year from $28.19 to $12.30 and that "valuable assets" like AC and Rainbow Six “could be worth more separately than together”.
Stubbornly outdated
The reason for Ubisoft’s poor fortunes – according to Druenen – might be based on the fact that the company keeps being "stubbornly outdated in an era demanding player engagement and community building" leading to further alienating players and investors, if there is no change of hearts.
He concludes by saying:
While the company has delayed Shadows in polishing the product and ensuring a smoother release, such adjustments will not mitigate the broader challenge: the erosion of player trust.
Do you agree with Druenen? Could the selling of IPs like Assassin’s Creed save Ubisoft or are there other ways for the company to regain trust of gamers and investors?
