There's a new movie on Netflix that's getting nothing but amazing reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, but you probably haven't heard of it.
The documentary Daughters was released on Netflix August 14 and has garnered a stunning 100% critical rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Described in many reviews as one of the most emotionally powerful documentaries of the year.
A Special Daddy Daughter Dance
The documentary follows four young girls preparing for a special Daddy Daughter Dance with their fathers. The twist is that their fathers are in prison, and the dance is being held as part of a unique fatherhood program in a Washington, D.C. jail.
The plot sounds like an emotional rollercoaster, and the critics agree. Adam Kempenaar gave a Tomato-meter from 100% and said:
It captures the healing and heartbreak.
Variety gave the movie 9/10 and were also surprised by how strong it is:
The film is rife with visually lyrical moments that connect viewers with the young ones’ sorrows, fears, insights and hopes.
Do we have a potential Oscar winner here? Go check it out yourself, but be sure to have some tissues on the couch, it will be emotional.
