The Chennai Esports Global Championship (CEGC) is set to mark a watershed moment for Indian esports, as Tamil Nadu becomes the first state government to fully fund and organise an international esports event of this scale. Taking place at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, the event will run in two phases: Phase 1 (November 7–9) and Phase 2 (November 14–16), establishing Chennai as a new global hub for competitive gaming.

CEGC Making History in Indian Esports

With generous support from the Government of Tamil Nadu and the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, this championship demonstrates a strategic push into the global esports arena.

The state's commitment stems from recent grassroots victories, such as esports’ inclusion in the 2024 Chief Minister’s Trophy, an event that drew over 5,000 participants and showcased the diversity and depth of gaming talent across Tamil Nadu.

The government has allocated a significant portion of its ₹562 crore 2025–26 sports and youth welfare budget to promote both the esports economy and youth engagement.

What Sets CEGC Apart

Multi-title Format:

CEGC will welcome top-tier teams and players from around the world to compete across multiple game titles. While official titles are yet to be revealed, organisers have ensured that the championship will cater to a wide range of competitive genres.

Technical Partnership with Skyesports:

Renowned esports organisation Skyesports is coordinating the technical side, bringing local expertise and experience to position Chennai on the world esports map.

Two-Phase Tournament:

Phase 1 takes place November 7–9, followed by Phase 2 from November 14–16, both hosted at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, which boasts seating for 8,000 and a legacy of major sporting events.

Well, with the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CEGC), Tamil Nadu is sending a powerful message: the future of competitive gaming in India is bright, homegrown, and ready for the world stage. This event will not only provide a massive platform for Indian esports talent but also unite fans and players in one of the country's premier sports venues.
