Clash of Clans is shaking up multiplayer play with two fresh modes, Battles and Ranked Battles, giving players more freedom in the upcoming September 2025 update.

Clash of Clans is gearing up for one of its biggest multiplayer overhauls yet. The COC September 2025 update introduces a long-awaited split in multiplayer battles. Players will now have the choice between Battles, a more relaxed mode focused on farming, and Ranked Battles, designed for competitive players aiming to climb the leagues and prove their skill.
New Clash of Clans Multiplayer Battle Modes
COC Battles: The New Farming Mode
In this mode, players can freely search for opponents, choose whether to attack or skip, and gather resources without worrying about trophies or rankings. This is a welcome change for casual players who just love collecting loot and upgrading their villages. Battles will be available for everyone, with matchmaking based primarily on Town Hall level, to ensure fair fights.
The shield system also sees improvements, making it easier to manage your protection time. Importantly, Battles won’t affect your trophies, so you can farm as much as you want without the pressure of losing rank.
COC Ranked Battles: For the Competitive Spirit
Ranked Battles are set to become the battleground for players looking to push trophies and rise through the ranks. Unlike Battles, this mode features:
- Limited daily attacks (typically six per day), similar to Legends League.
- No skipping opponents, as each match affects your trophy count.
- Tied trophies exclusively to Ranked Battles.
- A complete overhaul of the league system with new, fluid tiers.
Starting at Town Hall 7, players unlock access to this mode, stepping into a competitive environment akin to a mini Legends League. The higher tiers will include exciting modifiers to shake up gameplay, similar to Challenge or Hard modes, ramping up difficulty and strategy.

Revamped League System & Social Features in New Clash of Clans September 2025 Update
The leagues are getting a facelift. While Legends League remains the pinnacle of PvP, new tiers below it offer more granular progression paths. Your current trophies and Town Hall level will determine your league placement when the update goes live.
Your highest-ever trophy count remains as a badge of honor displayed on your profile, giving veteran players a meaningful milestone to showcase.
Notably, the update removes trophies from casual Battles, focusing only on Ranked Battles for trophy changes. This separation aims to balance both casual enjoyment and intense competition.
Extra Perks & Changes
- Free players gain a 5% research and builder speed boost, adding quality-of-life improvements for all.
- The old 500 Capital Gold reward in the Gold Pass is merged into a bigger 1500 reward slot.
- The new clan shield system changes how you manage defenses—not losing shield time from attacks adds a layer of strategy.
- Achievements like the League All-Stars will retire post-update, so players should grab any remaining rewards.
- The Gold Pass continues to offer great value with battle potions, troop training benefits, and the new Mash-A-Rama inspired cosmetic skins.
All in all, the September 2025 update marks a new chapter for Clash of Clans multiplayer battles. With the split modes, revamped leagues, and exciting new rewards, players can enjoy the freedom to play their way.
