Following the massive hack of Insomniac a few months ago, content continues to leak from various new, in-development, and canceled projects. Recently, users found and leaked a trailer for the canceled multiplayer game Spider-Man: The Great Web.
According to the Insomniac leaks, Spider-Man: The Great Web was intended to be a five-player multiplayer game built on a live service foundation, but Sony canceled it. The leaked trailer for The Great Web, which looks incredibly good, provides a glimpse of what this product might have looked like.
Spider-Man: The Great Web Looks Ready For Release - But It Never Will Be
Although several images from The Great Web were leaked months ago, this is the first time we can see a trailer. The game appears to be ready for release, which makes it particularly sad that we will never get to play it.
The Spider-Man: The Great Web Gameplay Trailer showcases impressive multiplayer elements that would have had five players teaming up to fight the Sinister Six in New York City. The game appears to have been designed around a multiverse concept that was disrupted by Scarlet Witch. Additionally, there would have been character customization options that allowed for a diverse range of superheroes to join forces against the villains.
While it is disappointing that we will never be able to play The Great Web, perhaps we will be fortunate enough to have a Marvel multiplayer game set in the Spider-Man universe in the future. Now that we've seen what Insomniac can do, it's exciting to think about the possibilities.
