A new Mario film has been announced by Nintendo!
In 2023 Illumination, the studio behind Minions and Despicable Me, released the Super Mario Bros. Movie. While many had been worried at first, especially after finding out that Chris Pratt would voice Mario, the movie ended up being a huge success.
Well, March 10 is Mario Day and for this year's Mario Day, Nintendo had a special announcement. They revealed that a new Super Mario Bros. movie is in the works.
New Super Mario Bros. Movie Coming In 2026
Thanks to the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2023, another film is in the works. Illumination Studios will once again helm the project alongside Nintendo to bring Mario, Toad, Luigi and everyone else onto the big screen once more.
In a short announcement video, Shigeru Miyamoto confirmed the project and even stated that the current release date for the film is set for April 3, 2026.

Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination also revealed that Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic will be returning as directors for the sequel and that along with the Illumination Studio in Paris they're currently working on story boarding the sequel as well.
Right now there is nothing Nintendo has shared about the story, but we're sure to have fan favorite characters return, and hopefully we get another singing performance by none other than Jack Black as Bowser. Just writing this, I keep thinking of Peaches... peaches... peaches.
