We are still two months away from being blessed with a new season based on the immensely critically acclaimed game, but news just keeps coming in. We can only guess that the reason we are getting so much information and so many explanations before the show even airs is the fact that the second installment of the game has divided fans like only a few games have in the past. In order to not waste time, let’s get right into it. Here is the latest news about The Last of Us Season 2.

Don't worry, we'll make it spoiler-free for you guys!

New Timeline Structure for TLOU2

As the iconic French director Jean-Luc Godard famously said, "A story should have a beginning, a middle, and an end, but not necessarily in that order." The source material has all of that, but it might be rearranged a little.

Showrunner Craig Mazin has announced that they are going to change up the timeline while still assuring it's appropriate for the show. He claims that they have very carefully – and scientifically – determined the most impactful way to tell the story.

Okay, let’s get the conspiracy theory board out. The Last of Us 2 already has a non-linear timeline, switching between Abby and Ellie, often jumping back in time so we can see the same event from different perspectives. But Mazin isn't even mentioning that. So, either he makes the show linear, which would be boring but still a change to the timeline, or he puts some of the hard-hitting events we know from the game at a later date – which would be the most obvious choice.

Kaitlyn Dever’s Abby Casting Concerns

Another thing fans are skeptical about is Kaitlyn Dever playing Abby. The actress is 5 foot 1, and compared to the original character, she looks like Captain America before he got the juice. Mazin stated that the action won’t fall short, but this will be a great way to show Abby’s vulnerability in her physicality while highlighting her strong mentality. Great, so instead of hitting the gym to start her revenge arc, she joins the debate club.

Neil Druckmann, the creator of the game, has said in the past that Abby needs to look, behave, and act differently so she doesn't feel like a reskinned Ellie and actually has a resemblance to Joel.

Look, let’s be honest, you got mad when Star Wars 7 was an exact replica of Star Wars 4, and that alien Romulus had too much fan service. But then Star Wars 8 changed a lot, and you also got mad. Changes need to make sense within the story, and only time will tell if they will work out, so let’s just wait and see.

What do you think of the changes? Are you excited for the new season? Let us know in the comments!
