Phil Spencer has revealed his plans to release an Xbox handheld.
In an interview with Bloomberg, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer spoke openly for the first time about the prototypes handhelds that Xbox has been working on. He has apparently dreamed of making an Xbox handheld device for a long time, and as he rightly added, the fans have also been expecting Xbox to “do something” in that space.
Xbox doing "real innovative work" for their handheld
Spencer explained that an Xbox handheld is now only “a few years out” and that he expects his team “could do some real innovative work”. Right now, the designers and engineers at Microsoft are currently working on prototypes while also updating Xbox’s mobile app to improve the experience on existing portable gaming devices.
Microsoft is the only one of the “big three” gaming companies next to Nintendo and PlayStation that have never released their own handheld, but clearly they've seen the re-emergence of the handheld and want to get in on that market.
Alongside a handheld, the company is also working on its next home console, which is supposed to offer “the largest technical leap” in the history of the Xbox.
