It’s been just over a year since Dragon’s Dogma 2 hit the shelves. The dust has settled in Vermund, and while players are still out exploring, one question hangs in the air: Where is the DLC?

Many fans, myself included, were sure from day one that Dragon's Dogma 2 would eventually get an expansion. The first game did, after all, with the now-iconic Dark Arisen coming less than a year after the original. And given Capcom's long history of post-launch support in series like Monster Hunter, it wasn't a stretch to expect something similar here.
A Promising Start, Then Silence
Dragon's Dogma 2 launched on March 22, 2024, and despite a few missteps like unnecessary microtransactions and ongoing performance issues, the game was a commercial and critical success. Yet, more than a year later, there has been no official announcement of additional content. No roadmap, no teasers, not even a vague "we're working on something."
This has left fans frustrated, especially considering that the original Dark Arisen expansion arrived only 11 months after Dragon's Dogma 1. By comparison, DD2 is already behind that timeline, and the lack of communication hasn't helped.
The Reddit Theories
However, there are signs that something is brewing behind the scenes. Back in September 2024, several users on Reddit noticed changes to encrypted Steam files – updates that were quietly pushed out by Capcom with no accompanying announcement. According to them, these were no ordinary patches or hotfixes. They appeared to be developer-level updates tied to placeholders or hidden content – possibly the groundwork for future DLC.
Officially? Capcom hasn't promised anything beyond performance improvements. Technically, they didn't mislead anyone – they just kept expectations manageable (and vague).
But among longtime fans, the belief remains strong: "DD2 sold better than DD1. There's no way they're leaving it at that," says one Redditor. This isn't just wishful thinking. Financially, it makes sense for Capcom to expand on a successful release. And based on the patterns we've seen – the Steam changes, the extended silence, the slow patching – there's reason to believe something is in the works.
So, Will There Be A DLC?
It's possible that Capcom wants to wait some time after the release of Monster Hunter Wilds so that the possible Dragon's Dogma 2 DLC will get all the hype and not be overshadowed by Monster Hunter.
Capcom is known for keeping things close to the vest – and then revealing them all at once. Until then, the wait continues. Many fans are still hoping that we haven't seen the last of Dragon's Dogma 2. And until Capcom explicitly says: "This is it", the door remains open.
