Former GTA Producer Launches GTA-Like Shooter – Before GTA 6

Rockstar North’s MindsEye looks a lot like GTA with a bit of fear for AI in it.

During Sony’s State of Play Leslie Benzies showed a new trailer for his upcoming game MindsEye.

After all the leaks, the rumors and the waiting, GTA 6 is... still not out yet. But while Rockstar is still working on the next title of the Grand Theft Auto series, a former developer of the franchise launched his own shooter that basically looks like GTA.

Former GTA producer and President of Rockstar North Leslie Benzies just announced his third-person action shooter MindesEye for this summer.

We Got GTA 6 At Home...

Benzies, who also founded developer Build A Rocket Boy, just revealed the first gameplay footage for his upcoming game MindsEye. The shooter is set in a futuristic world “where AI and human greed collide to bring earth to the precipice of collapse” – so probably something we’re just a few months away from and looks like it contains a lot of shooting and cars blowing up with stunning effects.

In the press release for the game, it says:

MindsEye follows Jacob Diaz, equipped with a mysterious neural implant, the MindsEye, that has left him with disjointed flashbacks of his time in the service, as Jacob fights to uncover the truth, he is drawn into a world where AI, high-tech experimentation, and unchecked military power impact every step of his journey.

However, one has to admit that the trailer with all the grim looking dudes, heists and car chases highly resembles what we’re used to seeing from GTA mixed with a bit of Cyberpunk.

Everywhere Is Nowhere To Be Found

Something that wasn’t mentioned in the trailer or mentioned during Sony’s State of Play by Benzies himself is "Everywhere". Back in 2022, when everybody and their mother have been talking about "metaverse being the next big thing", Everywhere seemingly was supposed to be Sony’s answer to it as a "multi-world game experience that blurs the line between reality and the digital world” with MindsEye being part of it.

Now the press release only states that "MindsEye® is an EVERYWHERE® world" without explaining it in any way – maybe because Everywhere won’t be launched before MindsEye will be released in summer of 2025.

What are you thoughts on MindsEye's trailer? Are you interested in the concept of Sony's Everywhere?
