Larian Is Cooking: What We Know About The New Games And What It Means For Baldur's Gate 3

Larian Studios isn’t resting on its laurels after the massive success of Baldur’s Gate 3. Instead, the team is already hard at work on not one, but two new projects. And while they’re keeping things intentionally vague, what little we know so far has plenty of potential.

Swen Vincke, Larian’s CEO, recently let slip that the studio is devoting its "full attention" to these upcoming projects.

What Do We Know About Larian’s Next Moves?

This isn’t the first we’re hearing about them, either – Vincke hinted back in April 2024 that the studio was working on "something big." And no, they’re not more Baldur’s Gate or D&D-themed adventures. According to Vincke, these new titles will be "big" (of course they will) and represent some of Larian’s "best work ever." Modesty? Not really their thing – but hey, they’ve earned the bragging rights.

One of the projects is operating under the codename Excalibur, though Vincke warns it’s "not what you think." It’s confirmed to be an RPG (obviously), but beyond that? Mystery abounds. The second project? Even more hush-hush, leaving us all guessing.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Isn’t Going Anywhere

Larian’s future might be bright, but they haven’t forgotten the game that got them here. Over a year after launch, Baldur’s Gate 3 continues to get love in the form of chunky updates. Coming soon: 12 new subclasses, crossplay, and a photo mode for capturing those dramatic dice rolls and questionable decisions.

Balancing all of this with two new projects sounds like a logistical nightmare, but Larian insists they’ve got it under control. And if their track record is anything to go by, it’s not just hot air.

Big Promises, Bigger Expectations

Here’s the catch – Larian’s gone into what they’re calling a "media blackout." So we can’t expect regular updates on these new games anytime soon. Sure, we might get the odd accidental hint on social media or an unexpected reveal during an awards speech, but for now, silence is the strategy.

With a reputation for shaking up the RPG genre, Larian’s next chapter is bound to make waves. Whatever they’re cooking up, one thing’s clear: it’s not going to be small potatoes.
