Great selling numbers and amazing reviews. Metaphor: ReFantazio is but a week old, and yet it already feels like the new main franchise for Atlus.
Metaphor: ReFantazio has had an incredible launch, and both critics and fans agree: It was worth the wait!
Metaphor: ReFantazio a massive hit for Atlus
On Atlus's official website, the developer announced that the release of their new IP was a huge success, with over one million copies sold on the first day. And those aren't the only numbers that show the game is living up to the hype. On Steam, 85,000 fans were playing concurrently the Sunday after release, which is almost double the peak number of players Persona 3 Reloaded enjoyed (the previous record holder for Atlus).
Even on Metacritic, where the trolls and haters lie in wait for the next big game to review bomb, the game received a user score of 9.2 (out of 10) and a critic score of 93 (out of 100).
We know from Persona 5 what happens to successful Atlus games: spin-offs, lots of spin-offs. For example, Persona 5 got...
- Persona 5 Royal
- Persona 5 Tactica
- Persona 5 Strikers
- Persona 5: Dancing In Starlight
- Persona Q2: New Cinema Labyrinth
... And so we are pretty sure that Metaphor: ReFantazio will also have, at the very least, an updated version (like Persona 5 Royal), which will have more characters, more dungeons, and maybe a different ending. Atlus released the updated version of Persona 5 three years after the original release, so we think it will take at least the same amount of time for Metaphor. Until then, we can all enjoy our first playthrough of this new smash hit.
Have you played it yet? And could you see the new IP dethrone Persona for Atlus?
