Overwatch mobile currently in development

It's no secret that Overwatch 2 is almost dead. But, Blizzard are not giving up on the franchise, and are apparently working on a mobile version of the game.

The Overwatch franchise is in a fairly terrible state, after failing to reinvigorate itself with Overwatch 2. But, it isn't completely dead, and a great many players would still like to return to this world, with its iconic characters and compelling lore. Perhaps then, rather than going for the AAA market, mobile is the answer. It has certainly worked for Blizzard in the past, just look at the ongoing success of Diablo Immortal.

Jason Schreier reveals Overwatch is coming to mobile

Games journalist Jason Schreier has just released his latest book, "Play Nice: The Rise, Fall, and Future of Blizzard Entertainment", in which he leaks a number of past and future projects for Blizzard. Alongside confirming that Netflix and Blizzard were in talks to make shows for StarCraft, Diablo, and Overwatch, the book also let slip that the latter is moving to mobile:

Overwatch was led by Walter Kong, who oversaw the release of regular heroes and content for Overwatch 2 as well as new projects, like a mobile version of the franchise

The frenetic nature of Overwatch will make the game difficult to recreate on mobile, but with the computing power of modern smartphones, anything is possible.

So far, this is all we know about the mobile version of Overwatch; it's in development. We don't have a release date or any other gameplay details, although we await more news excitedly.

Do you think Overwatch makes sense as a mobile game? We're unconvinced.
