Programmers have managed to turn the classic shooter game Doom into a playable PDF file.
Doom is one of the most famous shooters in the world. Not only because the 1993 game is an absolute genre classic, but also because it is known to run on every platform. Really. Every. One.
Gaming On PDF? Sure, Why Not!
Doom runs on pregnancy tests, on alarm clocks, as a captcha – and now as a PDF. Sure, it is pretty slimmed down, but it runs. With a solid 12 FPS and six colorful shades of gray, two programmers independently managed to get the shooter onto the PDF document as a playable game.
According to programmer ading2210, this works thanks to Javascript support. The fun is controlled by keyboard or buttons on the screen. And yes, it works. You can try it yourself here.
Is it practical? No. Does that change the fact that it's just cool? Neither does it! I can't wait to see what Doom fans come up with next.
