The Chennai Esports Global Championship (CEGC) is set to make history with international CS2 and national BGMI tournaments in November 2025.

The Government of Tamil Nadu is stepping into the global esports spotlight with the Chennai Esports Global Championship (CEGC), a landmark event that brings together top talent from around the world. In collaboration with Skyesports, CEGC will host two major tournaments: Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) and Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), both taking place at the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium in Chennai.
CEGC Counter-Strike 2 Tournament
The CEGC – Counter-Strike 2 tournament will run from November 7 to 9, 2025, and features a $50,000 prize pool. It will bring together elite teams from India, Southeast Asia, and Europe, making it one of the most competitive CS2 events in the region.
This tournament is officially part of the Valve Regional Standings, giving it global significance and offering teams a chance to earn valuable ranking points. Qualifiers are already open across all three regions, with the top two teams from each region advancing to the Chennai Playoffs.
With high-stakes matches and world-class competition, CEGC-CS2 aims to position Chennai as a key hub in the international esports circuit.
CEGC BGMI Tournament
Following the CS2 event, the CEGC – BGMI tournament will take place from November 14 to 16, 2025, spotlighting India’s best mobile esports squads. This national-level competition offers a massive INR 50,00,000 prize pool, celebrating homegrown talent and fierce rivalry.
While the full tournament format and list of invited teams are yet to be revealed, expectations are high for thrilling gameplay and standout performances from top Indian BGMI teams.
A Festival of Esports and Culture
The Opening Ceremony on November 7 will officially launch the championship, bringing together government leaders, global esports stakeholders, and industry pioneers. Dr Atulya Misra, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department, emphasised Tamil Nadu’s vision: to merge technology and sport, and empower youth through futuristic disciplines.
Shiva Nandy, Founder and CEO of Skyesports, called CEGC “India’s declaration” that the country is ready to build a sustainable global esports ecosystem. He compared the event’s ambition to Saudi Arabia’s Esports World Cup, aiming to make Chennai a bridge between Indian and global esports.
All in all, CEGC is not a one-off event; it’s a long-term initiative by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) to establish Chennai as a global esports destination. Beyond competition, it aims to boost related industries like broadcasting, content creation, and production, creating jobs and fueling India’s creative economy.
