Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are revamping the God of War series for Prime Video, replacing its original writers.
God of War, one of PlayStation’s most iconic franchises, is a natural fit for a TV adaptation with its character depth and epic scale. We were naturally thrilled, then, when Amazon announced they were going to commission a live-action TV show based on the game.
However, recent developments show that Sony Pictures TV and Amazon MGM Studios are taking a new direction with the project...
Original showrunner leaves God of War TV project
According to Deadline, the show’s original creative team, including showrunner Rafe Judkins and executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus, have exited after completing several scripts. Though these scripts were reportedly well-received, the studios are looking to shift creative focus:
...the trio’s scripts were praised by both Sony and Prime. [But] Sony and Amazon’s plan is to hire a whole new writers room for the series that remains an important asset for Prime.
Despite these changes, we don't think you should be too worried just yet. The studios are apparently committed to ensuring the series meets the high expectations of fans and becomes a hit.
Are you hyped for a live-action God of War TV show? And who do you want to play Kratos, surely The Rock?
