CoD Black Ops 6: Is the Vault Edition worth it?

Black Ops 6 looks set to be a strong CoD game (we certainly enjoyed the beta), and should feel refreshing for committed fans who have now played through two years of MW back to back. Treyarch have had three full years to cook, and they rarely miss.

But, if you are certain about buying BO6, should you buy the Vault Edition? It will cost an extra $30, which could otherwise be spent on a whole other game, and so you'll want to be sure. Here is a breakdown of all the benefits to help you decide.

What do you get with the BO6 Vault Edition?

You get four operator skins, five weapon skins, 12 single-use power ups for Zombies called "GobbleGums", and the BlackCell version of the Season 1 Battle Pass (which will begin about two weeks after the BO6 launch). You can check these bonuses out in greater depth below.

Hunters vs. Hunted Operator Pack

The Hunters vs. Hunted Operator Pack will give you two skins for both of the game's multiplayer factions, Crimson One and Rogue Black Ops (if you haven't played CoD in a while, you get assigned to a faction in each multiplayer game).

These are pretty great skins for a Vault Edition, especially compared to previous years that have been far tamer. Generally speaking, the skins available at launch are quite boring and get progressively better during the game's life-cycle.

Mastercraft Weapon Collection

The Vault Edition also comes with five "Mastercraft" level skins, which are effectively the fanciest weapon skins available in CoD. They all look pretty cool, except the knife, which is fairly unremarkable compared to most melee skins we get in CoD.

The problem with these weapon skins is that we really can't tell you how valuable they are because we don't yet know whether these will be meta weapons. Some of these weapons might be really strong and worth using throughout the game's entire life-cycle, or perhaps they will all be trash, and never worth using. It's impossible to tell ahead of the game's launch.

The GobbleGum Pack

GobbleGums are special consumable power-ups featured in Zombies. Introduced in Black Ops 3 and making a return in Black Ops 6, these candy-like items grant players unique abilities or effects that can aid them during gameplay.

GobbleGums are earnable in-game and offer a range of powers, from enhancing player skills to providing unexpected, sometimes surreal, advantages. The Vault Edition will give you 12 GobbleGums to make your first few games of Zombies easier.

BlackCell Battle Pass for BO6 Season 1

The BlackCell Battle Pass is simply a special edition of the standard Battle Pass we get each new season in CoD, and normally costs $30. In this case, the Vault Edition will come with a Black Cell version of the Battle Pass we'll get during BO6's first season, set to begin a few weeks after launch. It contains the following:

• The normal Battle Pass, with over 100 rewards.
• 1,100 COD Points unlocked instantly (which are separate to those you can also earn by completing the Battle Pass).
• 20 Battle Pass Tier Skips.
• Instantly unlocked BlackCell-exclusive content.
• Special BlackCell variants of Battle Pass Operator Skins, Weapon Blueprints, and more.

The BlackCell variants you get of normal Battle Pass skins are almost always black and gold versions.

Is the Vault Edition worth it?

This will of course come down to how much you play CoD and how much disposable income you have, but at least by comparison to the last five games (MWIII, MWII, Vanguard, BOCW, and MW) we think you're getting more than you usually do for the ultimate edition of a CoD game.

If you like the operator and weapon skins that come with the Vault Edition, and if you expect you will still be playing enough when Season 1 launches to complete the Battle Pass, we would think the Vault Edition is worth it. After all, the BlackCell Battle Pass alone normally cost $30, so you're getting that as well as all the extras with the Vault Edition.
