The Skillhub Online Games Federation (SOGF) and the International Esports Federation (IESF) are teaming up to bring the International Esports Championships to India for the very first time. And clearly this is a big deal for India’s growing esports scene.

With the help of India’s Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, this partnership is going to make India a major player in the world of gaming competitions.

International Esports Championships is coming to India

In October 2024, there was a meeting where officials from SOGF and Boban Totovski, the General Secretary of IESF, talked to Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, India’s Sports Minister. The government showed strong support and is fully behind this, saying it’s super important to give Indian esports players a chance to show their skills on a global level.

This partnership will bring top-level esports events to India, so gamers here can finally show their skills and compete in big tournaments without having to go abroad.

Shankar Aggarwal, the President of SOGF, was really thankful for the support from the government and IESF. He thinks this partnership will change everything for India’s esports industry. It’s not just about hosting tournaments—he wants to build a fair and strong esports community in India, where talent can grow and the whole industry is transparent and competitive.

SOGF has some strong leadership behind it, including Olympians, former judges, civil servants, and gaming experts. They’ve got the backing of 29 state bodies too, which means there’s a lot of support all over India to make esports bigger. They’re also working with the International Mind Sports Association (IMSA) and the Global Esports Federation (GEF) to support skill-based games.

Boban Totovski from IESF is also super excited about this partnership. He thinks India has massive potential in esports and really appreciates that SOGF shares the same goals. He’s looking forward to seeing the new pro-series start in India, and he believes this will open up a lot of opportunities for Indian gamers.

Well, with this collaboration, India is on its way to becoming a big hub for esports. And with the Olympic Esports Games coming up, Indian gamers now have the chance to compete at the highest level and make a name for themselves globally.
