Play Doom on anything
The story of Doom is not only the story of one of the most successful survival horror shooters of all time and basically the origin of modern speedrunning, but also the history of people trying to run a game on pretty much everything.
Phones, Clocks, Tamagotchis – you name it, someone runs Doom on it. And now you can also verify that you are in fact a human being with it.
DOOM as a CAPTCHA
Developer and tech CEO Guillermo Rauch created a WebAssembly application that features a Doom level you can play with your keyboard within a CAPTCHA-like presentation. And to pass the verification, you have to kill three enemies. But since the game is in Doom’s Nightmare difficulty, this is not the easiest task.
Of course this is – like most attempts to run Doom anywhere – more of a joke than a new way to increase the security of websites, but it is still amazing what people are capable of just to go a step further with a Meme like that.
