Riot Games has revealed its plans to grow League of Legends in India, hoping to reach more players in the country.
Riot Games, the creator of the popular game League of Legends (LoL), has announced plans to expand its presence in India. This is an important step for Riot Games as it aims to support the local gaming community and grow League of Legends in the country.
Interestingly, the company has listened to its passionate fans and wants to provide an amazing gaming experience in response to their feedback. Here are some of the key details that you should know about.
League of Legends Expansion in India
India is a powerhouse when it comes to gaming. There are an estimated 380 million video game players in India, many of whom are esports enthusiasts. League of Legends has historically taken a backseat to other esports titles in the country, with Battlegrounds, COD Mobile, Free Fire, and even VALORANT among the most popular. However, this new move will motivate fans to explore more of LoL.
Arun Rajappa, the Country Manager for Riot Games in India and South Asia, is excited to bring League of Legends to India. He believes the game is more than just fun; it's a worldwide sensation filled with passion and competition. Therefore, in 2024, players in India can look forward to many exciting opportunities and events related to League of Legends.
In the official press release, Arun Rajappa said, “We’re excited to be bringing League of Legends to the forefront in India. This isn’t just a game; it’s a global phenomenon that’s all about passion, competition, and having a blast. We’ve seen firsthand how much India loves gaming, and we’re here to take that love to the next level. As League reaches its fifteenth anniversary, we’re committed to empowering Indian gamers with everything they need to become legends in their own right.”
By 2024, Riot Games hopes to expand its esports sector in India, which has traditionally fostered a strong competitive scene, by launching creative partnerships, giveaways, and new tournaments in the country.
LoL Tournaments in India: Community Cups and Streamer Clash
Riot Games has launched its first community tournaments in partnership with The Esports Club, sponsored by Zotac Gaming. This new series of open League of Legends tournaments started on July 11, 2024, and will continue with more seasons until December.
Apart from the above tournaments, we also have the Esports Club Streamer Clash that will showcase some of India's best content creators, streamers, and players competing for fun prizes and bragging rights.
Not only will new community tournaments be held, but there will also be official swag and items, discord activations, and official swag events at the official LoL IN/SA servers as these events are intended to improve ties with South Asian League of Legends players.
For now, if you're an Indian player with high ping times, Riot Games suggests moving your account to a Singapore (SG) server to improve your game and connection.
Other Events of Riot Games
In addition to expansion in India, Riot has also announced that their global summer event, Anima Squad, will return on July 17 with a new game mode called Swarm in League of Legends.
In Anima Squad, classic League of Legends champions are reimagined as cybernetic, animal-themed warriors who unite to fight against the dangerous Primordians.
Also, the final chapter of Arcane, the animated series based on League of Legends, will be available on Netflix in November 2024.
Well, Riot Games’ plan to expand the presence of LoL in India is a testament to the growing popularity of gaming in the country. With a range of initiatives and experiences lined up, Indian gamers have a lot to look forward to in the coming months.
