The highly anticipated God Of War TV Show is shaping up to be an exciting adaptation, with fresh details revealed by showrunner Ronald D. Moore at San Diego Comic-Con.

Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on Battlestar Galactica, shared insights about the upcoming God Of War TV Show during a chat with IGN. He confirmed that the series will closely follow the tone and spirit of the beloved 2018 game, focusing on an epic journey with Kratos and his son Atreus.
Atreus Takes a Big Role Alongside Kratos in God Of War TV Show
Moore emphasised that while Kratos will obviously be the main star, Atreus will play a very important role in the story. He described Atreus as a young man who doesn’t really know his father well.
The show will explore their mission together and how they learn about each other along the way. This dynamic father-son relationship is central to the game’s emotional core and will be a key focus in the TV show.
Staying True to the Game’s Spirit
The showrunner explained that the series aims to “emulate the tone of the game.” He spoke about Kratos having a mysterious past, rich history, and complex emotions, which the show will dive into. The goal is to keep the story and characters authentic, while exploring new opportunities in the live-action format.
Moore also praised Cory Barlog, the game director of the 2018 God Of War and its sequel Ragnarök. Barlog is deeply involved in the adaptation and brings immense knowledge of the mythology, puzzles, and character motivations. Moore called Barlog a “genius” and said that his understanding of the game world is like “a gigantic novel,” much bigger than even a famous book series.
What to Expect From the God Of War TV Show
The show is being produced by Amazon Prime and has already been greenlit for two seasons. While it is still in the scripting phase, filming is expected to begin no earlier than 2026.
Moore hinted that fans might even see elements from Kratos’ earlier adventures before the 2018 reboot, teasing, “You’ll have to wait and see.” This leaves room for exciting surprises and connections for longtime fans of the franchise.
Interestingly, Moore admits he’s not much of a gamer these days and hasn’t played much since the arcade era of the 1980s. Yet, he is excited to dive into the God Of War games as he works on the show. His fresh perspective and storytelling experience are expected to bring a unique touch to the adaptation.
Well, Sony recently marked 20 years of God Of War with special updates to God Of War Ragnarök. Meanwhile, rumours swirl about a new side story set in Greece, although it may be delayed until next year.
