New TRON game announced, looks set to include a lot more fighting and a lot less biking

TRON: Ares will be the third installment of the movie franchise, releasing October 10, 2025. To coincide with Ares, Disney are also releasing a new video game next year called TRON: Catalyst.

The TRON franchise, which launched with the groundbreaking 1982 film, is perfect for video game adaptions (there have actually been more TRON video games than films at this point). It should come as no surprise then that a new video game has been announced for 2025, which presumably ties into the new film, TRON: Ares.

TRON: Catalyst to release in 2025 alongside TRON: Ares

Tron: Catalyst will release in 2025 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC. It is being developed by Bithell Games, who worked on the last game, TRON: Identity, a visual novel puzzle game.

So far, all we know about Catalyst is that it will be an isometric action adventure game. Based on the snippets of gameplay we saw in the trailer, it looks like a simplistic but clean game that will revolve around parrying. Curiously, biking seems to be far less of a focus in this TRON game.

The Steam page gives us a brief overview of the story:

Play as Exo, a highly resilient and resourceful program wielding an unexpected power known as the Glitch, gaining strength and abilities which the overlords of the Arq Grid’s crumbling society seek to bring under control. Ride Light Cycles, engage in Identity Disc combat, and more as you’re relentlessly pursued through the city and beyond by Conn, a malevolent program with an agenda of his own, while uncovering more about the glitches that threaten the stability of this world.

Although that's all we know about the plot, we expect the story will somehow tie into the events told in TRON: Ares, releasing the same year.

We do not have an exact release date or price yet, but we expect more news to be revealed soon.

Do you like the look of TRON: Catalyst? We're unconvinced.
