Spooky encounters and tricky puzzles await you in Mad Mimic's new pirate Metroidvania. But it's not just the search for the lost crew that requires skill and tactics - with every step you take, a mysterious story unfolds that depends entirely on your decisions!
A new Metroidvania is on the horizon, and with Mark of the Deep, Brazilian developer studio Mad Mimic has really outdone itself.
Set against the backdrop of a mystical island, you take on the role of a young pirate named Marcus 'Rookie' Ramsey, who is literally 'lost'.
Stranded on the deserted island, you have lost your crew and will encounter sinister creatures such as cultists and the undead as you explore.
Mark of the Deep manages to combine both Souls-like and Metroidvania elements, while also creating a narrative depth.
This playful action adventure is well worth a look!
More Than Just Exploration
In the classic Metroidvania tradition, you explore a diverse world with no restrictions. Instead of tedious quests, you decide what tasks you want to tackle.
But Mark of the Deep isn't just about exploration and combat: you'll also encounter a variety of NPCs along the way.
The story will become increasingly complex as you build your own network of friends and allies.
You will often be faced with the decision to offer help or seek safety, to continue the work of your former crewmates or to forge your own path.
Your decisions will have immediate consequences, presenting you with one dilemma or another as the game progresses.

Extensive Combat System With Individual Customisation
As you explore the cursed island in search of your crew, the angry mermaids, you will encounter a wide variety of enemies.
There are over 80 different creatures to be found and up to 16 bosses waiting to challenge you at various points around the map.
The boss battles are heavily inspired by the Souls games and have been realised in a challenging way.
Find mythical weapons such as pirate sabers, axes and ancient cannons, and learn new skills as a Keeper of the Signs. Treasures such as trinkets give you buffs and passively strengthen Rookie.
The coins you collect can also be used to upgrade Rookie and increase his combat power.
You can use the portals scattered around the map to teleport into the diverse areas and adapt your fighting style to suit the type of enemy you face.
Throughout each level, you will discover numerous hidden paths that you must first unlock or find.
From bridges to locked gates, each section offers hidden shortcuts. Use your grappling hook to move flexibly between areas and save yourself a few detours.
A Story Between Puzzles And Secrets
In over 25 hours of gameplay, you will gradually learn more and more about the island.
Friendly and hostile NPCs will tell you about the pitfalls and dangers, while you gradually find your lost crew members.
Although not all of them are in the same... let's say, the same state as before their disappearance.
All characters are professionally voiced, and the atmospheric music adds to the immersive experience.
Assemble a team of rescued crew members and benevolent NPCs to help you unravel the mysteries of the island, especially those surrounding the natives, the Old Folks.
And your decisions count: You will unlock different endings depending on the adventure, and decide who to trust, who to help, and who to abandon.
Available on PC, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and officially released on 24 January 2025, Mark of the Deep is a must-play for fans of free gameplay, mysterious puzzles and creative storytelling.
So come on board!
