Activision Blizzard, the company that made games like Overwatch and Warcraft, was secretly working with Netflix on a series for Overwatch 2. But, sadly, the show will never happen. It was never officially announced, so most fans didn’t know about it. The reason it got canceled seems to be because of a legal fight between Activision Blizzard and Netflix.

Overwatch 2 Series On Netflix Is Cancelled

Here’s what happened: back in 2020, Activision Blizzard sued Netflix. The reason for the lawsuit was that Netflix hired one of Blizzard’s top workers while he was still working there. Blizzard wasn’t happy about that at all. Even though the lawsuit wasn’t really about the Overwatch 2 series, it seems like this fight made things bad between the two companies, and that might be why the series got canceled.

Fans were pretty sad when they found out about this through a Reddit post by an insdustry insider named Jason Schreier, who knows a lot about the gaming industry. He said that Blizzard had big plans to make a few shows with Netflix, not just for Overwatch, but also for other games like Warcraft and Diablo. But after the lawsuit, all those plans were canceled. This was a big letdown for Overwatch fans because the game has a lot of cool stories and characters that would have been awesome to see in a series.

Netflix has already made shows based on video games that people loved, like the Castlevania series, and they’re working on a Tomb Raider series too. So, if the Overwatch 2 series had happened, it probably would have been a fun way to expand the game’s story, kind of like how Blizzard used to share more about the characters with special events and trailers inside the game.

The decision to cancel the series is just one more problem Blizzard has been dealing with lately. In Jason Schreier’s book, he talks about how Blizzard has been going through some rough times. The company has had some big changes, and not all of them made fans happy. Blizzard was also bought by Activision, which has changed the way they run things.

Even though the Overwatch 2 series for Netflix isn’t happening, fans are still hoping that Blizzard will find another way to tell the stories of their games in the future. Maybe it won’t be on Netflix, but with video game shows getting more popular, we might see something like this on a different streaming service one day.

For now, fans can only imagine what the Overwatch 2 series might have been like if it had made it to Netflix.
